Lesson 8: The "long" Rule

"Long" is another super important Bislama word. It replaces many English prepositions!

"Long" replaces: at, to, in, on, from, about

Examples: - Mi stap long haus — I'm at home - Mi go long maket — I go to the market - Hem i kam long Vanuatu — He/She comes from Vanuatu - Buk i stap long tebol — The book is on the table - Mi stap tingting long yu — I'm thinking about you

"Long" for Time: - Long moning — In the morning - Long aftenun — In the afternoon - Long naet — At night - Long Sande — On Sunday

"Long" for Location: - Long Vila — In Port Vila - Long solwota — At the beach/ocean - Long nakamal — At the nakamal (kava bar)

Tip: If you're unsure which preposition to use, try "long" — it works in most situations!
